ClickUp guests vs a Client Glance portal
Guests who only view are free. A client who comments can cost you a seat. Here's where that line sits.
On every paid ClickUp plan, guests who can only view are free, and you can have as many as you like. Guests who can comment or edit are capped. Core and Unlimited include 5, plus 2 for each member you add. Business and up include 10, plus 5 per member. Past that, ClickUp adds a paid member seat. One thing no guest setting fixes: a ClickUp Dashboard can't be shared outside your workspace, so a client only sees one by signing in as a guest.

A 3-person agency on Unlimited
Take a 3-person agency on Unlimited. The allowance is 5 for the first member and 2 for each of the other 2, so 9 guests can comment for free. The 10th client who needs to comment adds a member seat, at $7 a month billed yearly. The 11th adds a second seat, and so on.
Commenting is the reason most agencies invite a client at all. A client who can only look at a list could have had a status page. So the free view-only allowance helps less than it sounds.
ClickUp's pricing page shows 2 sets of plans right now. The current one has Unlimited at $7 and Business at $12 per user a month, billed yearly. The new one has Core at $9 and Business at $17, and ClickUp says those prices start no earlier than January 2027.
A ClickUp Dashboard never leaves your workspace
ClickUp's help center says it plainly: Dashboards can't be shared with people outside your workspace, and a Dashboard view can't be shared publicly. The workaround it offers is saving the Dashboard as a PDF.
A guest can see a Dashboard you share with them, but only the cards built on tasks and lists they can already reach. On Unlimited, Dashboards have 100 uses for the life of the workspace, and viewing one counts as a use. Business and up have no cap.
A Client Glance portal is the dashboard. It reads your ClickUp lists over OAuth and shows progress, deliverables, time and budget on a page the client opens without a ClickUp account.
Guests still see the comment thread
On paid plans you set each guest to view only, comment, edit (no delete) or full edit. Guests can't be invited to a whole Space, only to Folders, Lists, tasks, Docs and Dashboards. Those controls are fine. The leak is usually the comment thread.
Share a task and you share its comments, where your team talks about scope creep, slow sign-offs and what the work really cost. Attachments, shorthand task names and time estimates come along too. A portal works the other way round: you pick the lists, statuses and fields, and nothing else reaches the client's browser.
Moving a client from guest to portal
Keep the guest for a week next to the portal, so the client never loses the only view they had.
- Connect ClickUp over OAuth. Client Glance reads your tasks and writes back only what clients send: requests, comments and files.
- Point a portal at the list or folder that holds one client's work.
- Switch on the cards that client should see and leave the rest off.
- Add your logo, a color and a password, then send the link.
- Remove the guest from ClickUp once the client says the portal covers what they need.
Which one to pick
Pick ClickUp guests if
- Your client works in your tasks every day: creating, assigning and moving them.
- You have fewer commenting clients than your guest allowance, and they already know ClickUp.
Pick Client Glance if
- Your clients need to see progress and reply, not run the project.
- You want a client to see a dashboard without joining your workspace.
- You're past your guest allowance, or you will be in a few months.
